Mind-boggling.

It's like one moment you're standing on a cliff overlooking the ocean on a dark, ominous night. A turbulent storm has overcome the sea and waves are thrashing, rising hundreds of feet into the air, pounding the surface of the water as they come down again. The sound of what may as well be a war raging at sea is almost unbearable, like cries of agony are ripping from the waters with the crash of each monstrous wave against another. The seemingly opaque, black waters show no sign of hope, illuminated only by the sporadic flashes of lightning that light up the sky moments at a time. All your senses are suddenly overcome with hysteria and time seems to go faster and faster; the pounding of the waves more and more intense, until you can't distinguish sight from sound anymore and your vision blurs, hearing becomes muffled, and all you feel is the pounding of your heart in your chest and it all overwhelms you to the point where you want to scream...

and then, in the fraction of a second that it took for you to blink, it's over. You rub your eyes to make sure its really over and shake the image you had in your head just a few seconds earlier. The waves have died down to mere ripples dancing along the surface of the ocean. There's an overwhelming sense of calm on the sea as nature's battle comes to a close and the tension just fades away, drowned out by the lapping of peaceful waters against the rocks below. A breeze comes your way clearing the air, clearing your senses and clearing your head. The serene blue of the ocean suddenly glitters as you look up and notice a gleam of hope peaking just over the horizon. The sun slowly climbs higher into the peach colored sky as the clouds part, making way for the star. Breathe in.

A new day.
